Modern tribal tattoos

Modern tribal tattoos
Modern tribal tattoos are generally speaking not strongly associated with any particular tribe and are usually stripped of their social meaning. Tribal tattoo art we see in the Western world today are often based on:

* Polynesian tattoo designs
* The tattoo designs of the tribes of Borneo, namely the Iban and Kayan (Sarawak) and the Kenyah (Kalimantan)

Tattoo artists like Leo Zulueta, an American with Filipino roots, and Alex Binnie, from London, had a great influence on the development of this modern tribal tattoo style.

Luckily for today's tribal tattoo lovers, the methods used to apply the tattoos have changed. Bone needles and plant or animal dyes have been replaced by tattoo machines and the circumstances in which a tattoo artist today works are generally more hygienic than those of a tribal community.

Bahamas Ghetto Life & Art

On Sunday I got to Nassau... I was ready to get off the ship... They gave us until 4:30pm to make it back to the ship or they were leaving without you...

I hit the streets...I'm not a big fan of the tourist scene so I walked around looking for people I could relate to...

They told us on the ship that it could be dangerous... But I'm no coward... And I will never me afraid of my own people... I'm not rich and struggle is universal...and I know struggle... So I knew I would feel more comfortable in the ghetto than going around shopping.. I can shop in Atlanta, NYC, or LA... Nassau was special.

I ran across some beautiful street art...the graffiti scene is different in the Bahamas.. They use lots of layers and cut out stencils.... Like screen printing on walls

This piece wasn't just "street" art it had a fine art feel... It was my favorite piece I seen.. I had to shoot it.. It moved me

Everyone was asking me about my tattoos... So I guess that was a good intro to meeting the people.. A few of them had heard of me and said "Bailey your a real nigga for an American" I told them "I'm NOT an American and I don't follow their beliefs, I'm just a country ghetto nigga trying to inspire those around me. I was born there and just stuck there for a sec until I get my money right." this kid about 9 or 10 about the age of my son sold me a bag of weed... So I had to look for a place to smoke out...they pointed me to the beach and said "follow the yellow brick road" I walked through some HARD looking areas... Clearly the people were poor and I didn't see a white face or tourist in sight...they said the police don't go over there so it was a perfect place for me

It wasn't good weed.. It was brown but it would do... I never really smoked brown weed before ..I jumped on a wall with a couple of dope boys... Rolled my joint and watched the kids do back flips off the wall into the ocean like they were professional swimmers....I have video and more photos of the people on my camera so I will post them later once I upload them to my computer....

I talked for hours with the people... We talked about the police, hip-hop, America, weed, guns, life, pain, and women... They said i'm safe anytime I wanted to visit and I gave them my cell number

My Bahamas Cruise

I landed in Miami...it was really hot... That's one beautiful city and it's always good to be there but it was a short stay... Made a run to the bank to pick up some cash then went to the Port of Miami to board the ship...

Once I got on the ship I didn't even unpack.. First thing I did was take off my clothes put on my swimming trucks and laid in the sun....

Once the ship took off and we were in the ocean... I looked for the view of the sun... When I feel the sun I know the Most High is touching me...God is real

I was trying to get a tan...beer belly out and the only thing I was missing was some weed...but I was so relaxed I didn't even need to smoke anything... I felt high with nothing at all

The ship was huge... The first few hours not that many people were out... I guess they were getting settled in and unpacking

The breeze felt amazing.. A perfect balance with the heat from the sun

All I could do is think about sharing this with my family and friends...I never felt so relaxed in my life.. I was at peace... No cellphone, no tv, no Internet

I had to dress up for dinner and get my Malcolm X on... I have more photos on my camera...I will post them later...once I got to the island I went straight to the "ghetto" the people treated me like one of their own... I'm not down with that tourist stuff... If I can't be around my own people then something is wrong... I will post more of the ghetto pics later once I get to City of Ink

More video and photos coming soon from the Bahamas

Temporary Tattoos For Adults

There was once a time when temporary tattoos were only for kids. Unless you wanted to be labeled as a poser, you would have had to go the permanent route if you wanted any type of body art. Even if you wanted to have large temporary tattoos on your body to express yourself, you couldn't do it for fear of ridicule. Besides, there were no designs for adults like tribal tattoos back then. Kids were the primary market, so it was understandable if the designs were limited to cute and fuzzy animals. Most adults wouldn't want to be caught dead with those designs.

But thankfully for those who don't want to go through the pain of permanent tattoos, we now have the option of getting temporary tattoos for adults. The market expanded to include adults in its repertoire. There are now large temporary tattoos with designs for adults like menacing animals. Even tribal impermanent tattoos became popular designs even if they were already popular with the permanent tattoos. It just shows that adults are being open-minded in terms of using these temporary forms of tattoos.
What brought this open-mindedness? These are the times of self-expression. Adults want the opportunity to be able to express themselves without going through pains and regrets. So adults now realize that getting skin art temporarily is the better option.
There's also another reason why it became popular with adults. You'll often see adults with large temporary tattoos at gatherings. They might be wearing these tattoos to raise team spirit. Being adults, we have our own teams that we support. It can be at school, work or even a sports team. These events give us the chance to gather as a crowd in support of our team. You probably won't see tribal temporary tattoos in these events. However, you will see similarly designed temporary tattoos. The design would depend on what the crowd is supporting. You'll probably see designs of mascots or words that help raise team spirit.

Impermanent tattoos are also being used for nobler causes. It's comforting to know that a lot of adults are being socially and morally responsible. This is obvious with the amount of support that most adults show at fundraisers. You will see a large group wearing large tattoos as a show of support for a common cause. Fundraisers are usually held in support for a person, a group or a cause. If you're organizing these types of events, it's a good idea to give out temporary tattoos as giveaways. It's a good way to show unity and it also raises the collective spirit of the crowd. Besides, it's inexpensive but gets the job done. In addition, you can also sell them at your fundraisers in order to help raise funds. Since it's inexpensive, they wouldn't think twice in buying it especially if it's to help raise money for the cause.

Thankfully, some manufacturers recognized the new market and offered customized temporary tattoos. If you have an event in mind, you may want to approach and ask them for assistance. They're used to making them for these types of events so they'll be sure to deliver. You have a noble cause. Make sure it counts.
